Rum Guide

White Rums exhibit a light body, although some White Rums from the French islands can be heavier. They commonly possess a clear appearance and a delicately subtle flavor profile. Dark Rums is a Full-bodied and rich are characterized by a dominant caramel flavor. The finest ones are often crafted primarily using pot stills and are commonly aged in oak casks for extended periods. The most decadent among these rums are typically enjoyed neat.

Spiced Rums can be white, golden, or dark Rums. They are infused with spices or fruit flavors. Rum punches (such as planters punch) are blends of Rum and fruit juices that are very popular in the Caribbean.

Añejo and Age-Dated Rums are blends of aged Rums from various vintages or batches, carefully mixed to maintain consistent flavors across different years for specific Rum brands. In some cases, aged Rums provide age statements specifying the youngest Rum in the blend (for instance, a 10-year-old Rum comprises a mix of Rums that are at least 10 years old). A limited number of French island Rums are specifically labeled with a Vintage Date.

Cachaça is a spirit similar to rum, produced in Brazil. In contrast to traditional rum, cachaça is distilled from pure sugar cane without the use of molasses. It stands as the most popular spirit in Brazil. Similar to rum, cachaça comes in two varieties: unaged (white) and aged (gold). White cachaça is typically bottled immediately after distillation and is often more affordable. It is commonly used in the preparation of cocktails like caipirinha and various other beverages where cachaça is an ingredient. Dark cachaça, often considered the “premium” option, undergoes aging in wooden barrels and is intended to be enjoyed neat. The flavor of dark cachaça is influenced by the type of wood used in the barrel.
